For American and British Citizens (as well as other persons who may need psychiatric services in English or French) in Salzburg, Austria, I am most happy to be at your service.
My name is Moritz Mühlbacher.
For nearly two decades, I served as Senior Physician at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Christian Doppler Clinic in Salzburg, where I specialized in bipolar affective disorders and treatment-resistant depression. Beginning in 2002, I established the special outpatient clinic for bipolar disorders and treatment-refractory depression, utilizing the expertise gained there to develop the Bipolar Center Salzburg.
For private patients, I maintain close collaborations with selected clinics of my choosing, both within Austria and in neighboring German-speaking regions.
I was honored to be elected “Teacher of the Year” in 2013, 2014, and 2015 at the Paracelsus Medical Private University. Additionally, I served with great joy and dedication as an elected board member of the Austrian Society for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, and Psychosomatics during one term of office.
Currently, I care for patients in my private practice as a fee-based physician.
My particular focus lies in the treatment of so-called “treatment-refractory” depressions—depressive disorders that have not responded sufficiently despite multiple therapeutic attempts—as well as inadequately treated patients with bipolar, schizoaffective, schizophrenic, and anxiety disorders.
My therapeutic approach is a holistic biological one. Wherever appropriate, I collaborate closely with trusted colleagues from other medical specialties.
An indispensable cornerstone of my work is a meticulous and thorough evaluation of potential physical factors—such as nutrition, immunology, hormones, and more—that may contribute to the onset or worsening of psychiatric conditions. Unfortunately, these factors are all too often overlooked.
Therefore, I kindly ask that you take the time to bring all previous medical reports from other specialties to your first appointment. If your symptoms have persisted for a longer period, it is very helpful to provide a brief written overview of their history.
In my commitment to maintaining and continuously improving the quality of psychiatric care in Austria, I established the first cross-provincial quality circle, where psychiatrists from all fields of psychiatry, psychology, and psychosomatics meet regularly to exchange insights on new developments.
French, Itlalian and Spanish speaking patients will be welcomed as well, allthough I cannot guarantee perfect communication skills.
Patients from other cultures and backgrounds are explicitly welcome, too, if some level of the above mentioned languages or a trusted translator is provided by your side. I guarantee individualized treatment and absolute non-negotiable confidentiality according to your every needs. As I operate strictly privately, no report whatsoever will be issued to any party without your explicit consent. If you wish to do so, you can turn in any invoice for reimbursement, though, which will usually cover 80% of the cost according to the conditions of your health care insurance policy.
